The Sri Mukambika Temple at Kollur in Udupi district attracts pilgrims from all parts of southern India. Kollur village is nestled amidst the greenery of the Western Ghats, at the foot of the Kodachadri Hills. Here Mookambika Shrine, one of the seven holiest sites of salvation, is dedicated to the goddess of strength and emotional strength. This temple has a gilded coat of arms and a copper roof. Adi Shankaracharya, the great philosopher is said to have visited this temple to perform penance. It is also believed that Adi Shankaracharya dedicated the idol to goddess Mukambika.
