It is located on the Alaknanda River in the hilly city of Badrinath in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Badrinath is one of the most legendary temples associated with many mythical stories. According to mythological stories, Lord Vishnu made a hard save in this place. During his intense meditation, he was oblivious to the harsh weather conditions. To protect him from the hot sun, his wife, goddess Lakshmi, took the form of a Badri tree and spread it over it. When Lord Vishnu witnessed this, he was delighted with their devotion and therefore named the place their Badrikashram.
